Meet the Experts
Dr. Stuart D. Shoengold is the Director of The Center of Female and Male Sexual Medicine and has been a practicing Urologist since 1981. He is a founding member of Urology Group of New Jersey. Dr. Shoengold received his B.A. degree from Rutgers University where he was named Phi Beta Kappa and Who's Who in American Colleges and Universities. He completed his medical degree from Rutgers New Jersey Medical School where he also finished his Surgical and Urology residencies.
Dr. Shoengold is a Clinical Assistant Professor at the Rutgers New Jersey Medical School and Chairman of the Division of Urology at the Newark Beth Israel Medical Center. Dr. Shoengold is Director of Urology Education at Saint Barnabas Medical Center. Dr. Shoengold is certified by the American Board of Urology and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He is also a Board member of the International Society for the Study of Women's Sexual Health (ISSWSH). He is one of the 30 MDs in the USA that was elected an ISSWSH fellow (I.F.). Other membership includes the Sexual Medical Society of North America, International Society of Sexual Medicine and Society of Prosthetic Surgeons.
He has a subspecialty interest in female and male sexual medicine and has had preceptorships with Dr. Irwin and Andrew Goldstein.
Dr. Shoengold has published several abstracts, publications and has made numerous media presentations and lectures. He is also a member of the American Board of Urology, New Jersey Medical Society, Essex County Medical Society and Association of Clinical Urologists. He is also a urology consultant at Kessler Institute for Rehabilitation and member of the Short Hills Surgery Center. He sees patients at the Millburn office of UGNJ. Dr. Shoengold is the Founder and Director of The Center for Female and Male Sexual Medicine.
Beth Levy-Merlin is a psychotherapist with over 20 years’ experience. Currently, she is a partner at Roseland Psychotherapy Associates. Beth is one of the few certified sex therapist in the tri-state area, receiving intensive training through the Sex Therapy Training Institute in Miami Florida. Additionally she has received extensive training in Manhattan.
She has trained under the two international authorities, Esther Perel, MA, LMFT and Carol Clark, PHD. This rare expertise allows clients the benefit of a therapist with specific training in sexual issues, dysfunctions and intimacy concerns. She is interactive and works towards providing practical feedback and solutions for those who seek help with these concerns.
Julie Potischman, NCC, LPC is a licensed psychotherapist with over 20 years’ experience. She is one of the few certified sex therapist in the tri-state area, receiving intensive training through the Sex Therapy Training Institute in Miami Florida, where she studied under Dr. Carol Clark. Additionally she has received extensive training in Manhattan under the international psychotherapist and author, Esther Perel, MA, LMFT. This rare expertise allows clients the benefit of a therapist with specific training in sexual issues, dysfunctions and intimacy concerns. She is interactive and works towards providing practical feedback and solutions for those who seek help with these concerns. Ms. Potischman is currently a partner at Roseland Psychotherapy Associates in Roseland, NJ.
Dr. Alan Strumeyer received his B.A. degree from the State University of New York at Binghamton in Binghamton, N.Y., and his M.D. degree from Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. He completed both his internship in General Surgery and residency in Urology and the University of Medicine and Dentistry in Newark, N.J. He is a board certified urologist and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, and a member of the American Urological Society and Medical Society of New Jersey and member of the International Society for the Study of Women's Sexual Health.
Dr. Strumeyer has been practicing in the Essex county area since 1990 and joined UGNJ in 2008. He serves as a Clinical Assistant Professor at UMD/New Jersey Medical School Section of Urology. Dr. Strumeyer is part of a team of qualified surgeons offering Robotic Radical Prostatectomy. He currently sees patients at the Millburn office of UGNJ.
Dr. Eric Seaman has been a practicing Urologist since 1996. He is a founding member of Urology Group of New Jersey and served as its president from 2008 to 2012. Dr. Seaman received his B.A. degree from University of Pennsylvania, summa cum laude and a member of the Phi Beta Kappa honor society. He completed his medical degree New York University School of Medicine. He also finished his Surgical and Urology residencies at Columbia Presbyterian Medical center in Manhattan and then completed a clinical fellowship in Male Reproductive Medicine and Surgery at Baylor College of Medicine, Houston, TX.
Dr. Seaman holds admitting privileges at both the Newark Beth Israel Medical Center and at Saint Barnabas Medical Center and has courtesy status at Morristown Memorial hospital. Dr. Seaman is certified by the American Board of Urology and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He is a member of the American Society of Reproductive Medicine, and the Sub specialty society: SSMR: Society for the study of Male Reproduction. In addition, he is a member of the American Urological Association and the Sub specialty society: SMRU: Society for Male Reproduction and Urology.
